Celler de les Aus is the biodynamic arm of the Alta Alella winery with environmental sustainability at it’s heart. “Merla” means blackbird in Catalan - all the wines in this range are named after birds in the national park. The winery donate funds - as well as a good few grapes! - to ensure their welfare.

Mataro loves the heat. It sucks it up and holds it in its thick , thick skin ready to unleash it’s power into the juice. In the hands of this skilled winery it unfurls rather than punches with notes of wine-soaked cherries, billberries, anise, aged leather and pure sunshine. No sulphur was added at all and yet still the wine is clean as a whislte. Best to decant it if you can or at least swirl it around in the glass a couple of times to let it unfurl for you.
