Mas del Périé, Cahors, France.

I’ve not yet met Fabien - the genius behind the wines at Mas - but when we do meet I’m sure we’re going to be besties. Fabien makes Vin de Soif - thirst quenching wines. Fresh, lively, fun and very, very drinkable. ‘Smashable’ is underused as a tasting note in my humble opinion - Fabien seems to have taken the word and turned it into a philosophy.

But that doesn’t mean his wines are in any way dumbed down. Fabien has been producing wines biodynamically since 2011 and his wines carry that characteristic purity and sense of somehow being alive in the glass that I think you get from biodynamic wines.

Fabien is also playful and experimental in his winemaking - don’t pick up one of his wines if you’re looking for slavish conformity to the norms for his region. But if you like exciting, unpretentious, playful but seriously good wines then Fabien is your man.

“If I was making wine seriously rather than mucking about with little projects, then I’d be making wine the way this guy does…”
