The team at Alpha Box & Dice couldn’t be easier to like. Young, fresh, full of ideas and energy… for an old guy they’re exhausting to be around! Since setting up in 2008 AB&D have been on a mission to champion the increasingly diverse array of varieties that are available in McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.
Buying in fruit from high quality growers, winemaker Sam Berketa champions alternative - particularly Mediterranean - varieties to produce a range of innovative and genuinely interesting wines (as in ‘good’ interesting not ‘WTF is this?’ interesting) with each letter relating to a project.
‘B’ for Blood of Jupiter (the literal translation of Sangiovese - the predominant grape in their Super Tuscan inspired blend) is a personal favourite. And really…. how could you not love a winemaker who names one of his creations Golden Mullet Fury?
