Hello townies!!! From all the way in (sometimes) sunny Cornwall we’ve put together a cracking selection of wines to bring you a ray of sunlight and a hint of the old ‘sand between your toes’.

In partnership with one of our favourite ‘little guy’ importers (Carte Blanche Wines) we’ve picked out six wines with the unifying theme that they are absolutely belting examples of their type (and maybe just a little bit quirky too).

Brought to you at the very special price of £105 including free delivery! What’s more if you choose to add on some extra bottles from the rest of our on line shop we’ll throw in free shipping for those wines too!

Vincent Caille X-Bulles Pet Nat NV £25

We love Pet Nat so much that we made our own. It sold out, in winter, during lockdown (yes, we are very pleased with ourselves!) so until we can make the next batch we’re keeping the Pet Nat vibe flowing. We love the pink tinge that 10% of Cot gives this fizzy marvel from one Muscadet’s most-loved winemakers. 5th generation, organic & moving towards biodynamic production this is no flash in the pan of vinous fashion. At once fresh & saline with wild raspberry hints it’s been proven great for breakfast by the Padstow brunch massive as well as a palate cleaner with some fresh fruit by our elegant dining scene.

Alta Alella ”PB” Pansa Blanca 2018, Alella, Spain £18

The setting for this winery couldn’t be more attractive. In the middle of a national park a brisk jog from Barcelona & just 2km from the Mediterranean. The family farm organically to get the best from the indigenous vines they look after. This Pansa Blanca – or Xarel Lo – shimmers pale gold in the glass like morning sun on sea. Pale white flowers unfurl on the nose with the purity of fresh dew. On the first sip this wine bristles with life & energy! Super-ripe rock melon, sweet lime & frangipane with a resonant lemony finish. It’s a perfect aperitif that you will end up sipping all night long.

Loxarel Amaltea Blanco 2018, Penedes, Spain £17

This cracking little Garnacha Blanca, Xarel-lo blend was destined for the stunning London-based Spanish restaurant, Moro. With their closure due to the pandemic we’ve given it a home here in Cornwall.

It will soon be on our own by-the-glass menu & we’re confident it’s mouth-watering white pear, peach, mandarin & ripe melon flavours will win many fans. Fresh, aromatic & clean as a whistle, but with real charm & character.

Domain Le Loup Bleu, Vol de Nuit, Rosé, 2019, Provence, France £19

I have a guilty secret. I’m generally not a huge fan of rosé most Provence rosé. But I like this one. Oh my, I really like this one. Organic & (nearly) biodynamic winemaking really shines through in this wine where pale summer fruits, fragrant raspberry, wild strawberry, & herbaceous notes are perfectly balanced. It actually tastes like wine rather than pink acid! And to cap it all the clever guys at Loup Bleu have achieved these results while delivering that pale colour so loved by rosé fans the world over. Magic must be at play…

Fabien Jouves Haut Côt(e) de Fruit B3 Vin de France £22

Let’s start by saying this wine is delicious, smashable & will drench & quench your palate with super-ripe fresh red fruits. I don’t really want to tell you that it’s Malbec (Cot) because it is nothing like what we have come to define Malbec, Argentinian or French, as tasting like. Super-jammy Malbec-as-we-know-it can be tasty but the secret here is that this wine is titled “Vin de France”. This is because it is categorised as “not made by the rules of the area it comes from”. It’s a rebel but it’s not a punk. It’s not crazy it’s just different & most importantly damn tasty.

Adegas Carballal “Can do Sil “ Tinto 2019 , Valdeorras, Spain £14.50

This is the cheekiest, crunchy, sappy, juicy red we’ve had in ages! Mencia & Garnacha grown in the hills of Galicia as they have done since Roman times. This is a very calm & considered winery run by a very calm & considered man. There’s no eggs or amphorae &, until Can do Sil, no crazy labels. This is wine made by the very careful control of stainless steel tanks & scientific knowledge of the potential of each plot.  All very measured. Very precise & ordered. Which is why this little beaut surprised us – it leapt out of the bottle & filled our glasses with a pop-up riot of violet, blueberry & sun-ripened summer berries.
