Zind Humbrecht Riesling “Turckhiem” 2016
We sent Kate off to the Alsace to find some new wines from this knock-out (and often overlooked) wine region. She didn’t disappoint and returned with this superb riesling. We all loved it so we put in on the menu by the glass over the summer and it went down a storm.
And I’m not surprised. The aromas are intensely fruity and hints that something sweet is on the way. So it’s a surprise to find that the wine is so dry whilst also delivering really intense, ripe tropical fruit flavours. Best of all the acidity is really well balanced and those intense flavours come without any heaviness – nothing cloying here! Most tasting notes for this wine seem to talk of citrus fruits but I’m sure I’m getting pineapple and bananas too. You’ll have plenty of time to make up your mind about what you’re tasting as the finish just goes on and on.
This wine drinks very nicely on it’s own but, like most rieslings, it would make for a great food wine. Pair it up with any asian influenced seafood and I think you’re onto a winner.
