Sepp Moser Fundamental Gruner Veltliner 2016
We’ve found a natural wine we can get behind and it’s a cracker. Fundamental from Sepp Moser is natural, organic and biodynamic. It’s also unfiltered, has no added sulphur and it’s vegan friendly.
So it ticks all of those boxes nicely but it was the nature of the wine that hooked us in rather than its natural production method. Really rich baked fruit aromas and peachy flavours are backed up with a interesting, yeasty savoury note. Then there’s a hit of citrus acidity to sharpen things up leaving you with a really fresh edge to the lengthy finish. I found it to be a genuinely interesting but not “challenging” wine. An approachable, easy drinking wine that also gives you a bit to think about if that’s your bag… count me in! In fact I love it so much we’re going to add it to the by-the-glass menu.
Great on its own but even better with a piece of fish I reckon. This wine and smoked salmon would be great buddies. It’s an awful lot of wine for £17.00 (natural production doesn’t come cheap) but even better value to wine club members at £15.30
