Meet the winemaker – 22nd June

In the latest instalment of our stormy romance with South African wines, winemaker Louis Boutinot from Waterkloof Wines will be on hand with a stunning range of tasters for 20 lucky wine club members on 22nd June, 6pm right here at BinTwo.  Another free tasting I hear you say…Yep!

Louis BoutinotWaterkloof Estate is an independent, family-owned organic and biodynamic farm overlooking False Bay on The Western Cape of South Africa. Acquired in 2004 after a ten year search by winemaking Anglo-Frenchman Paul Boutinot, the estate has quickly gone from strength-to-strength earning numerous awards and listings in some of the world’s top restaurants including Noma, Gidleigh Park, The Fat Duck, The Ledbury and Azurmendi.

Paul’s son Louis (who is involved with all areas of the business from vineyard to dinner table) will be showcasing some of their wines from Waterkloof – many of which are produced in tiny quantities- and sharing the fascinating Boutinot family story, as well as the amazing goings-on at Waterkloof, where horses are preferred to tractors, the farming is 100% self-sufficient and chemical free and leopards roam the farm at night!

We’re already huge fans of his Circumstance Sauvignon Blanc – will the 2014 vintage carry the same delectable savoury notes that we’ve enjoyed so much in the past?

Circumstance Cab Sav 2Some fabulous Chenin Blancs have made it onto the BinTwo shelves in recent months…will Louis’s Seriously Cool Chenin Blanc 2014 make the grade…we’re quietly confident.  BinTwo regulars will remember that we featured his Seriously Cool Cinsault as a slightly chilled red on our terrace menu last year – it’s making a comeback on the 22nd if you need a reminder of how refreshing it is!

Throw in a rather dainty Cape Coral Rosé, a tub-thumping Cabernet Sauvignon and a couple of other lovely bits and bobs…you get the idea.  It’s going to be a belting tasting.

Inside the shop will be reserved for the tasting event but normal terrace service will continue on our funky new outdoor seating.
